I went to Versailles.
I've arrived to Paris and am happily cozied up in my hostel.
Stepping into Versailles is like stepping into a house where the former owners were killed and their belongings were left just they way they were.
The A here in gold is for Antoinette.
I'm staying at Les Piaules. It's quite nice; very clean, nice area, wifi is okay.
They do have a bar downstairs, and as much as I would love to meet people and listen to everybody's travel stories, I don't know but for this particular trip, I just feel like keeping to myself and just thinking, soaking in everything I'd seen that day. Besides, I have plans to meet up with some people during this trip so that should keep me from growing too lonely:)
Today, I went to Versailles.
The last time I was here, I was only 5 or 6 years old. I only remember glancing up at Marie Antoinette's bed wondering why it was so tall, and why my bed wasn't.
Now that I had a tinsy bit more knowledge on the French history, I was able to look at the palace with a bit more deep insight.
Stepping into Versailles is like stepping into a house where the former owners were killed and their belongings were left just they way they were.
It is crazy haunting; to think that Marie Antoinette had actually been living here and living the most luxurious life, whilst her people were living under the darkest conditions French history has ever seen,,, and how eventually revolution struck and a person who was once queen, had become a prisoner and killed.
This history was what made me feel so complex when I stepped into that palace. But I guess these are the elements that make the palace so mysterious and mesmerizing.
On the other hand though, Versailles was truly beautiful. it was like a work of art. Every inch of the building is so intricately designed, it is absolutely breathtaking.
Here are some nice photos of their garden.
